On the Edge – A Poem

mountain climber - on the edge

I’m on the edge
On the very tip
Of a mountain
Full of emotions

Suspended
Through time
And space,
Like pressing a button
Everything
Is suddenly
Put on hold.

Don’t know
How I feel
Don’t know
Where I’m going
Am I happy or sad?
Going up or down
I’m just suspended
In thin air
Nothing
To hold on to
No one
To depend on.

I feel myself slipping
Slowly the rocks crumble
Under my weight
But never falling.

I’m just there
On the edge
Of a mountain
Full of emotions.

I wrote this poem when I got hurt by someone who was very close to me. That person was supposed to be my friend and when I developed a little crush on him, I told him how I felt, but he did not feel the same way.

It was hard to express how I felt, so I wrote the above poem. I couldn’t tell whether I was angry or sad, I just felt numb. I shed no tears and I kept how I was feeling to myself. I couldn’t bring myself to tell anyone about what happened to me and my friend.

Writing this poem did make me feel better. I always feel better when I channel my feelings into doing something creative.
